The Internet & Your Teen with Special Needs:  What You Need to Know

Presented by: JJ Hanley - Executive Director, JJ’s List

Tuesday, November 15, 2011

9:30 - 11:30 a.m.

Northbrook Public Library, Ryan Auditorium

1201 Cedar Lane, Northbrook

Are you concerned about your teen with special needs using the Internet?

Are you thinking about an iPad for your teen for the holidays?

The Internet is a life skill that middle and high school students now use for learning, socializing and exploring the world. Students with special needs cannot – and should not – be excluded. But how do you address the unique needs around Internet safety and productivity for your teen with special needs?

Parents of teens, pre-teens and transitioning students with special needs will want to join us to learn:

• The importance and risks of the Internet for teens with disabilities

• “Uh-oh! Lessons learned the hard way about Internet safety.”, by those with disabilities

• State Law, school policy, parent policy

JJ Hanley is Founder and Executive Director of JJ’s List whose mission is to strengthen the social and economic futures of people with disabilities through direct use of and training in technology and the Internet to build skills for job readiness and community integration and to break down the growing digital divide between people with and without disabilities.
