I am writing a separate review of the biology101 class I took this semester at Oakton Community College. My instructor, Professor Strond, has been extremely accommodating. On the first lab day my mom and I went in early to meet with him, because he had previously asked me to do so. We talked about how he could make the class more enjoyable and beneficial for me, and he showed us a raised diagram of two cells that he had made for me. He continued to make raised diagrams of various things that were pictured in the books we used. Although the material was a bit complex, I did benefit greatly from these diagrams and some plastic models he had in lab. When it came to blood typing and genetics, he constructed models for me too. He made tactile Punnett squares for the genetics, and had little wooden pieces which I could fit into each area on the board. For blood typing, he had a plastic tray with wooden pieces which represented each of the blood types. These accommodations not only benefitted me, but several other students in the class as well. In addition, the website we used for our online studies in class is very accessible. Professor Strond was with me also during all 4 exams to make sure things ran smoothly. I thank him for all his tireless work to make this class a success for me.

This review covers both the Des Plaines campus and the Ray Hartstein campus located at 7701 N. Lincoln Ave. in Skokie. I've taken several classes at Oakton Community College and was always very impressed with their accessibility. Both campuses are physically accessible, and have Braille and large print signage in several places. In addition, the faculty and staff are very friendly and accommodating. Their website is also very accessible.
