Margie's Candies is a wonderful old-fashioned ice cream shop with two locations; One on Montrose and one on Western Ave. The one I am reviewing is for Western Ave, which is the original location. Although both are ridiculously small and cramped, the Western Ave. location is much worse. This was our third visit, and we discovered that there is a washroom, but it is barely accessible to anyone.

The service is usually decent; they like you to eat and get out as they are frequently busy. I brought my friend Jess who has a really awesome purple power wheelchair to Margie's and it was very busy. It was cold, so everyone was waiting for a table inside. An employee asked us if our group could wait outside. Since they'd only asked us, we wondered if it had anything to do with Jess. The staff kept asking my friend to move, and seemed very annoyed that she was here. One employee tripped over my friend's wheelchair and shot us a dirty look. Only after much convincing did we get a table that was more accessible for her.

Technically, Margie's Candies is accessible. People in chairs can get through the door, but there are only two tables that are accessible. Don't come in the rain if you have a power chair and Margie's is busy; They will make you wait outside.

Do yourself a favor and skip this place. Spend your money where they don't discriminate.
