I happened to be taking advantage of the nice weather, walking through Centennial in my spare time. I decided to observe the pools, soon enough a thought came to mind. I decided to go to the front desk to ask if they were a D.A.D. member, thinking about how perfect the Aquatic Center (along w/ the Indoor Ice Rinks & Tennis Club) would make as a Bridge Builder target! The staff not being familiar with JJ's List, I gave them the web-site, a brief explanation of what JJ's List is. I hope to soon see the JJ's List window sticker(s) on their property.

A young man who is deaf working at the skate rental. He has a set up complete with typed, laminated sheets laying out sizes, types of skates, etc. so that he can communicate with the customer and vice versa without speaking. He was wonderful and the system worked beautifully.

The Wilmette Park District has done a great job making the beachfront disability friendly. There is a hard surface at both the swimming and sailing beach that make getting right up to the water very easy. They have a beach chair available at the beach house to allow for people with physical disabilities easy access into the water. Life preservers are also available at the beach house just for the asking. There are also that will allow wheel chair users to enjoy a meal or a snack. If you have a Wilmette city sticker and a disabled placard then you can park in the accessible parking without paying a fee as well.
