The place charges 150 per hr but did not even have a chair to sit on while waiting for my child.

I had a bad experience at KGH with my son, who at the time was 8 years old. Despite extensive conversations with Kim about my child, his likes and needs and so on, the first session that we had was as if we had never talked. They had my son booked in a four hour time slot with a therapist and a couple of toys. The point of the session was to associate positives with being at KGH and to get to know the therapist. My son came in regulated and happy, but after two hours with a therapist and a couple of toys, and nothing else, he became totally disregulated and unhappy. Imagine that ... Despite saying that she would be available, Kim was no where to be found..

Funny part is that my son now sees former KGH employees who are FABULOUS.

I have a son who is almost 4, and has been diagnosed on the spectrum. We went to visit last summer, after he was diagnosed. I was impressed with the children that I saw, and since my little one has been attending, he is talking, almost potty trained, and becoming social. While I expected for insurance to cover more than it ended up covering, Kim worked with me to make sure that Jaden never missed what he needed. Contrary to the negative impression of Kgh, I find all of the staffers helpful there. I would and will recommend KGH to others. I have even recommended it to EI therapists that are working with families just getting diagnoses,

Several people recommended KGH to us, but on my first try, they did not have a social group that was appropriate for our tween-aged son. KGH has a very nice space, but seems more oriented to younger children. Eventually, we did try a new Friday-evening social group that went pretty well, but I was eager to offer suggestions about the kinds of services that our son needed and that would be motivating for him. I made several attempts to share my ideas with Kim, KGH's founder, and to let her know about our experience with the changing needs of adolescents as they get older. Since Kim does not live in the area, I also wanted to give her some ideas of places in the community where a social group that might include my son might frequent for outings. She did seem especially interested in my input, which I found disappointing. After some time, I did call again to see if there might be another group program for our son, but never received a call back. It also seemed to me that there was a lot of staff turnover at KGH, which is not ideal.

Some people I know are satisfied with the services they've received from KGH, but I did not feel that my extensive experience as a parent who lives in the community, and who has a teenager with social-learning challenges were of any particular interest to KGH, and ultimately left feeling that KGH was not well-equipped to work with older kids (or their parents). Perhaps others will share their experiences so that we can see if our own experience was the exception or part of a pattern.
