St. Augustine's is the church that my family and I have belonged to since 1985, when we first moved to Illinois. St. A's has had a number of different full-time and part-time clergy and other staff over the years, and all have been very welcoming. I have been a reader there, and my brother and sister who is visually-impaired have sung in the choir for a long time. In addition, this same sister is a frequent reader and does a very nice job. I haven't been able to be a reader as much recently, since I moved and am no longer a regular churchgoer. But I still enjoy going. One thing I particularly look forward to and have for awhile, is the holiday services and other holiday festivities. Another thing I like about this church is that anybody is welcome regardless of personal beliefs or status in life. When I had my last kidney transplant back in the summer of 2001, one of the then full-time clergy members came to the hospital on the morning of my surgery to pray with my parents and me. I recently joined the HOPE committee, a committee which promotes better use of our environment. HOPE stands for Help Our Precious Earth. A couple neighbors have asked me why I don't just go to a church in Evanston, now that I'm living here. The main reason is that I feel most welcome at St. Augustine's.
