Ignite, one of our day programs at Search, went on many adventures this summer. They explored the Chicagoland area by visiting museums, restaurants, parks and more. Read on to hear some of their favorite summer memories, businesses they found to be disability-aware and what they are looking forward to in the fall!
- What was your favorite adventure this summer?
- Katy: I enjoyed working at Navy Pier at the Chicago Children’s Museum.
- Pam: I liked taking the water taxi!
- Anthony: I liked the picnic.
- Erich: My favorite thing was eating good food!
- Becky: I liked going to the chocolate factory and exploring my neighborhood in Rogers Park.
- Abby: I had fun scoping out Rogers Park and visiting Chinatown.
- Where did you find people to be more disability-aware and mindful?
- Katy: I found people to be mindful at the Chicago Children’s Museum, where I worked.
- Pam: At Target, they treated me respectfully, and I want to come back more. I also felt like Jewel-Osco and Culvers were disability-aware.
- Anthony: I feel welcome at Wells Park!
- Becky: Outback Steakhouse has been really nice to me.
- Abby: The PACE paratransit bus is welcoming. Jewel and Walgreens are also accessible to everyone, and mom-and-pop stores are helpful with counting my change.
- Are there any stories and adventures you want to share?
- Pam: When I was checking out at Target, they generously gave me my drink for free!
- Abby: I went to camp at Fair Oaks in Indiana. I got several bug bites!
- What are you looking forward to this fall?
- Katy: I’m excited for Halloween.
- Pam: I can’t wait for Halloween and getting a candy bag. I’m also looking forward to a few birthdays.
- Anthony: I’m excited for football and Halloween movies.
- Erich: I’m looking forward to Halloween and trick-or-treating.
- Becky: Halloween will be fun and I’ll be eating a lot of candy! It will also be my birthday soon, and I’ll be seeing my family for the Jewish New Year, Rosh Hashanah.
- Abby: I love fall because it’s my birthday and Halloween!
