Launching My Career

A guest blog by Kate Hilbrant
Many individuals have benefited from No Boundaries since the program began, and have gone on to have successful careers. One individual is Kate Hilbrant of Winnetka, IL. With training and support from No Boundaries staff and mentors, Hilbrant recently landed a job as a Resource Teacher, at a Bright Horizons preschool in Lake Forest, IL.

“No Boundaries helped me to learn new skills that were necessary for my job,” Hilbrant said during a recent interview with JJsList.com Social Media Assistant Abbie Volkmann.  “I learned how to fill out job applications and to create Excel spreadsheets to keep track of my job applications.” Along with other No Boundaries participants, Hilbrant practiced following up on interviews through email, writing cover letters and budgeting.

One of the most helpful parts of No Boundaries, according to Kate, was the
mock interviewing practice she got with the No Boundaries trainers and volunteer mentors.  “They helped me build my confidence to speak confidently during a phone interview,” Hilbrant said. She also learned how to do research on the companies by exploring the organizations’ websites.

In her new assistant teaching job, she supports the teachers in the 2 and 3-year-old classrooms. Hilbrant states she has big plans for the next few years. Some of her goals are to become a preschool teacher, to get married, have a family, own home of her own, and be more independent.
