JJ’s List participates in The Nerdery Overnight Website Challenge 2012

In our quest to strengthen jjslist.com, our website that aims to be a platform for people with disabilities to connect with businesses, JJ’s List applied to The Nerdery Overnight Website Challenge 2012. Of 61 non-profit hopefuls, 12 were selected to be paired with teams of 8-10 web professionals (aka Nerds!) for some website makeovers, and JJ’s List is honored to be one of them.

For us, this was a huge opportunity to strengthen the user experience on jjslist.com. We’re really working to make it easier for people to search and sort through the directory to find businesses that are disability-aware, and to make it easier for anybody to post reviews. Another important factor to us was ensuring that both the front and back end of our website are accessible to the disability community.

We were assigned to a fabulous group called Drupal Rocks!, with Chris Weber at the helm as Team Captain. It was a beautiful whirlwind of 24 sleepless hours, tonnes of computers, power and bandwidth, with the sound of mouse clicks and keyboard clacks wafting in the air.

Watch this video we put together to take a peek at how it all went:

Thanks to team Drupal Rocks! and The Nerdery! You’ve put us well on our way to getting a new website! Also thanks to JJ’s List volunteer Sean Doe-Simkins for giving us the heads up and helping with our application.
